English Tutoring in Rugby

Personalised, in-person English tuition for upper primary, 11+ English, KS3 and GCSE English Language and Literature, with thoughtful support for pupils with SEN/SEND.

Adult English, French, online and group lessons available by arrangement.

Hi! My name is Natasha Pickup, and I am a qualified secondary-school teacher with experience teaching both English and French. I also hold a Cambridge CELTA qualification in teaching English to adults and have undertaken postgraduate study in neurodiversity in education.

I live in Rugby with my husband, our two secondary-school-aged children and our cat. I provide personalised private tuition shaped around each pupil’s individual needs, and I particularly enjoy working with secondary-school students, including those preparing for GCSEs.

I am passionate about teaching English. When I’m not tutoring or acting as the family chauffeur, I enjoy hiking, reading, creative writing and working in the garden. I am also partial to a little Netflix when it’s time to relax—aren’t we all?

My tailored tutoring

I offer comprehensive academic support designed to foster critical thinking, subject mastery, and examination readiness for secondary students.

Upper Primary, 11+ and KS3 English

Build strong foundational skills in English. I create an engaging, encouraging environment that instils a lifelong love of learning.

Year 10-11  GCSE Prep and support

Targeted exam preparation and English or French tutoring to help secondary students navigate the GCSE syllabus confidently, boost their grades, and reduce revision stress.

"It is my pleasure to write these words for Natasha. She helped with my son's GCSE English. She possesses an exceptional personal demeanour that had a perceptible effect on my son's attitude and interest in the subject right from the start. We saw a steady improvement in his performance and he achieved grades way above expectation. Natasha was very quick to narrow down on the problem area and undertook remedial action with laudable results."

Dedicated to educational growth for all in Rugby

I believe every student has the potential to excel when given the right tools and guidance. I work closely with parents and students to create customised study plans to deliver what the individual family requires. I hold a Diploma in Coaching from Warwick University which informs my approach, and I also did my secondary teacher training (PGCE) at Warwick. I will not just deliver generic lessons and prefer where possible to work in person, although I can offer online too. I tailor lessons to your individual needs and set homework (!) Expect to work, expect to feel motivated and expect progress.

Frequently asked questions

Find answers to common questions about our tutoring programs, tutor qualifications, and session scheduling options.

How much do you charge?

£32 for a 60-minute lesson. Individual lesson preparation is included.

Do you teach Eleven Plus?

My own child successfully passed the Warwickshire 11+ examination, so I understand the preparation process from both a teacher’s and a parent’s perspective. I personally prepared him for the English elements of the examination, particularly comprehension and vocabulary, and this is the area in which I offer tuition.

I do not claim to teach every element of the 11+, but please get in touch even if you are unsure what support your child needs. We can discuss their current position and how best to approach their preparation. Where another subject or specialism is required, I can also recommend excellent local colleagues from my trusted network, including people whose expertise supported my own son’s successful preparation.

No tutor can guarantee an outcome, but careful preparation, consistent work and the right specialist support can make a real difference.

Are you DBS checked?

Yes I am on the DBS update service and will show you my certificate when you come to see me.

Do you teach SEN children?

As the parent of a Year 10 student with autism and ADHD, I understand that successful learning can look different for every child. When I work with your child, I will take time to understand how they learn, communicate and flourish, and I will tailor their lessons accordingly.

For example, my own daughter often needs to draw while she listens. To somebody unfamiliar with her, it might appear that she is not paying attention—but she is taking everything in. Understanding differences like this can transform a child’s experience of learning.

I offer a calm, quiet environment and can make thoughtful adjustments around sensory and learning needs. Alongside my personal experience, I have undertaken postgraduate study in neurodiversity in education and am close to completing the qualification.

Do you teach adults?

Adult English tuition is available by arrangement. I hold the Cambridge CELTA qualification and am trained to teach English to speakers of other languages. I can offer personalised support with spoken and written English, grammar, reading and communication skills. Please contact me to discuss your goals and whether I would be the right tutor for you.

Ok, how do we get started?

You and your child are welcome to visit me at my home in Bilton for a short, relaxed introductory meeting. A parent or carer must attend.

Before coming, please find out which exam board your child’s school uses, if applicable, and bring a few recent examples of their English work. We can have a cup of tea and talk about your child: what they enjoy, what they find difficult, their interests and what they hope to gain from tuition.

This meeting is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and decide whether we would work well together. It is not a teaching session or formal assessment. With your permission, I may retain copies or photographs of relevant work to review properly afterwards.

If we all wish to proceed, I will send you my current availability so that you can book the first lesson. Lessons may be paid for individually, with no requirement to commit to a long package. Discounted block booking is also available if preferred.
